I have suspended my legislature campaign. This page will remain live for a short time, for those still learning about this through Google. I will still be involved and active in local organizing, and I hope you will, too!
I grew up in Western Pennsylvania, part of a big family in a small house a ways north of Pittsburgh. After graduating from high school, I moved to the Washington DC area, spending a few years working and taking classes at the nearby community college.
Eventually, a friend invited me along to a protest of the Iraq War. I found myself drawn to the passion and sincerity of the speakers, and read every word of the literature available. Exploring this interest, I found myself at other demonstrations — for fair wages for farm workers, reproductive freedom, racial and economic justice, sustainability, and other progressive causes.
In 2008, I moved to New York to continue my education. As a student, I found myself easing into a career in communications: learning to write press releases and other stories, work on websites, take photos at public events, and pick up tips from mentors in the field.
This gave me the freedom to spend my classes exploring ideas of culture, history, and justice. I also met and began dating Sharon; after graduating in 2011, we moved to an apartment in Lansing, and I began working full-time at my alma mater. We married in 2015 and moved to Ulysses the following year.
I still paid close attention to progressive causes, following and participating in protests and responding to calls for advocacy. In 2016, like many others, I was moved to action by the first election of Donald Trump, and began attending meetings of the local chapter of the Democratic Socialists of America.
For recent years, I have organized meetings and rallies as an officer of the organization, collaborated on political education programs, knocked on hundreds of doors, and spoken with countless locals about getting politically involved.
Looking to get more involved in my own neighborhood, I joined the Ulysses Democratic Committee in 2022. I am also a member of our local Working Families Party club and the Tompkins County Workers Center, and I serve on the board of the Center for Transformative Action.
In my spare time, I keep a simple garden, read, play games, and do some hiking. Really just a little bit of each.
